QPR forward Tom Hitchcock felt it was quality in attack that was the difference for QPR’s Under-21s against Brentford on Tuesday.

EDS manager Marc Bircham named an experienced squad which included Andy Johnson, Matt Phillips and Javier Chevanton – who bagged a brace.

Johnson and Phillips are both nearing a return to the first team after injuries, while Uruguayan striker Chevanton was signed on a short-term deal by Rs first team manager Harry Redknapp, and he made a big impact in Rangers’ 4-0 win.

And Hitchcock felt that their quality was crucial as the EDS side eased past Brentford.

“The difference is when you have players like Chevanton and Johnson up front, put the ball to them both and they’ll finish it,” said the forward. “They’re good players, very good players.”

Youngster Mike Petrasso reaped the rewards of having the more senior pair with him in the team, finishing well after being found unmarked by either player in the first-half.

Johnson was involved again early in the second half when his brilliant through ball was met by Chevanton, who later doubled his tally for the afternoon after good play by Matt Phillips.

Hitchcock started the game in an unfamiliar central midfield position, but admits sacrifices have to be made for the benefit of the team.

“It was tough in there and I haven’t really played there before but you’ve got to do a job for the team and just get on with it.

“It was a tough game, but I thought all the lads did really well – everyone worked really hard,” he added.
