Plans have been revealed to convert a former council building in Wembley into a mixed-used development of residential, retail and community spaces.

Chesterfield House in Park Lane, formerly housed Brent Council’s education department until it moved into the £90m civic centre in 2013.

Since then the building was sold to HUB, a mid-market housing developer and its partner Bridges Ventures, a specialist impact investor, who have allowed job clubs, creatives, entrepreneurs, playgroups and women’s support groups to use the space rent-free.

Steve Sanham, development director for HUB said: “It’s great to see Chesterfield house full of life again.

“Enabling vibrant, community oriented, uses in the building is our way of engaging and understanding the existing community before coming forward with our redevelopment plans. Creating meaningful relationships in Wembley Central is important for us as we bring forward proposals for a new residential led scheme.

“Our hope is that it will be a positive addition to the Wembley townscape.”

A public consultation about the future of the building will be launched next week before planning application is submitted to Brent Council.
