Smokers taking part in ‘Stoptober’ can exchange their last packet of cigarettes for a free gym membership to help them beat their cravings.

Willesden Sports Centre in Donnington Road, Willesden, is rewarding residents who ceremoniously chuck their fags in the bin with a three-day pass to enjoy their facilities.

The Stoptober campaign urges smokers across the UK to quit smoking for the month of October, as research has shown that people who manage to stop for that length of time are more likely to not start again.

Jane Hylton, contract manager at the gym, said: “This is a fantastic government campaign and we’re proud to be supporting it.

“We hope our local residents take full advantage of our offer during Stoptober. It’s key that smokers don’t give up trying to give up – and we want to be on hand for those looking for that little but of support!”
