Youngsters at Mount Stewart Primary School have created posters to raise funds

Children from a primary school in Kenton are using their artistic talents to plant new trees in the grounds of a hospital.

Pupils at Mount Stewart Primary School in Mount Stewart Avenue, have created posters to help raise money to pay for the trees at Northwick Park Hospital in Watford Road, Sudbury.

The youngsters have teamed up with Charles Hurford, a radiographer and sustainability champion at the North West London NHS Trust, for the fundraising project.

The children presented their posters to the hospital this week and hope they will also raise awareness about the importance of trees to the environment.

Mr Hurford said: “Looking after our environment, as we all know, is very important.

“Since the building work started at Northwick Park, some trees have been removed to make way for the new multi-million pound emergency department. I have a vision that we can replace them with ones that will provide good habitats for birds and wildlife, such as hawthorn and hazel.”

In planting new trees, the Trust will be taking part in a national campaign, called NHS Forest, which is run by the Centre for Sustainable Health.

Their aim is to plant 1.3 million trees, one tree for every NHS employee, across NHS sites all over the country and thus create an NHS forest.
