Free online mental health therapy for Brent residents
PUBLISHED: 06:45 26 June 2015
Residents in Brent with a mental health problem can get free one-to-one therapy sessions from the comfort of their own home.
Big White Wall has improved its online health service to provide LiveTherapy, which enables all those in the borough aged 16 and over to access one-to-one support to deal with stress, anxiety and other mental health issues.
The supportive anonymous community group, commissioned by Brent Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), already offers trained counsellors available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week to those who need it.
New improvements to the service means LiveTherapy can offer flexible appointment times, such as evenings and weekends, and are a convenient and discreet way to access treatment.
People can talk to a therapist via webcam, audio and instant messaging from their home.
One Big White Wall member said: “I feel that the support given by Big White Wall is fantastic. You are not judged and you can be yourself. Most of us are very good at hiding our feelings. This is the only place I have felt comfortable in expressing myself.” Ethie Kong, chair of Brent CCG said: “One in four people will experience a common mental health problem in their lifetime, whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, feeling low, or struggling to cope. Talking about these experiences can be difficult, but people don’t have to struggle alone.
“LiveTherapy is an exciting new development which will give residents greater choice, and make it easier to access support whenever and wherever people need it.”
