Dr Claire Taylor was given a Service Improvement Excellence Award and a Macmillan Fellowship at Macmillan Excellence Awards.

Dr Taylor, who leads the colorectal nursing team, was nominated by her colleagues for improving services for people living with and beyond cancer across the country.

The dedicated medic launched a new clinic for people with chronic bowel problems following cancer treatment.

The clinic at St Mark’s Hospital, which is located next to Northwick Park Hospital in Watford Road, Sudbury, is attended by patients from all over the UK.

Dr Taylor was also behind a new support and self-management package for people affected by cancer at the hospital.

She said: “The big motivation for me is knowing that we’ve got so much to do to improve care. I’m always asking what we can do to make our service better and provide better patient experiences.”

Amanda Pye, chief nurse at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, which manages St Mark’s Hospital, said: “Claire is an exceptionally talented nurse and I am truly thrilled that she has been recognised by Macmillan in these awards.

“The developments and improvements she has introduced have made a real difference to our patients living with cancer. She is a credit to her team, the trust and the NHS.”

The awards celebrate the outstanding work carried out by Macmillan health and social care professionals across the country.
