Tunde Hazzan will trek across Yorkshire and Cumbrian in aid of Brent Mencap and Women Win
A Harlesden man is limbering up for a mammoth trek from coast to coast to raise money for charity.
Tunde Hazzan will strap on his walking boots and walk 200 miles from the shores of Yorkshire to the Cumbrian coastline in aid of Brent Mencap and Women Win.
Taking in national parks The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors Mr Hazzan is aiming to complete the feat in a super quick time of five days despite experts recommending a more leisurely two weeks.
The 27-year-old, who lives in Fortune Gate Road, will be joined by two friends for the arduous trek.
Explaining the reasons for his choice of charity, he said: “I first noticed the work they do a few years ago when I volunteered there and I want to raise awareness of what is a great cause.”
Brent Mind, based in High Road, Willesden, offers high quality services to local residents seeking mental health information and support.
It was their Befriending project that attracted the support of Mr Hazzan.
He explained: “It’s a great idea and affective way of integrating people with mental health back into society. “
The Befriending scheme offers individual and group sessions which aim to; reduce loneliness and social isolation, increase self-esteem and social skills through the development of a positive relationship.
Mr Hazzan will be taking on the challenge on May 20 and is already in training.
He said: “We are doing long distance walks every single weekend, averaging around 25 or 26 miles each time.
“None of us have gone that far before and we starting to feel the burn – its not going to be easy but we are pretty confident we can complete the challenge.”
