A big bash was thrown for a Wembley resident who celebrated her landmark 100th birthday.

Enid Walters commemorated reaching three digits with her friends and carers at Park Lodge Care Home in Monks Park, Wembley, where she has lived for more than 10 years.

Mrs Walter, who is a mum of four, grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of four, worked as a nurse at Wembley Hospital in Chaplin Road, before retiring 40 years ago,

Born in the Caribbean on July 8, 1914, Mrs Walters came into the world 20 days before the outbreak of World War One, following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.

Her husband, Archie, was tragically killed during the Second World War, after his ship was attacked at sea.

Describing Mrs Walters as a delight, Avis Kelly, manager at the care home, said: “She has such a wonderful personality and likes to laugh a lot. She likes good food and cleanliness. We have to make sure everywhere is clean. She wouldn’t hesitate to tell you off if it’s not.”
