A foundation has been set up in Wembley Park that will deliver grants worth up to £150,000 to local people in the borough.

Developers Quintain and the London Community Foundation have launched the Wembley Park Community Fund, a three year grant for charities, community or voluntary organisations.

The grants aim to make a real difference to local residents in and around Wembley Park by encouraging community engagement and participation through funding a variety of community-led activities.

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are open to applicants until June 19 and will be centred around three core themes – Better Places – making Brent a great place to live, work and visit; Better Lives – supporting education, employment and good health and Better Locally – ensuring local networks and services work effectively.

Priority will be given to Brent residents and community-led organisations and includes proposals engaging local people who are not involved in Wembley Park but have projects supporting young children and elderly or vulnerable adults.

Wembley Park residents will also benefit from their own grass roots activities, as proposals for activities taking place in the Yellow Pavilion and other spaces in the area.

The fund will be available for at least the next three years up to 2019.

Quintain will make an initial donation of £68,000 for grant making in 2017 and a minimum donation of £50,000 is committed for the following two years making a total donation of over £150,000.

Angus Dodd, chief executive of Quintain, said: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of The Wembley Park Community Fund today. We’re now encouraging local organisations to apply for grants of up to £10,000 in the next two months. The intention is that these grants will be of direct benefit to the wider Brent and Wembley communities and reflective of the Fund’s core themes of Better Places, Better Lives, Better Locally. I certainly would like to see the benefits of the Wembley Park regeneration spread wider through the borough.”

Russell Delew, chief executive of The London Community Foundation, added: “The London Community Foundation are dedicated to supporting local community groups and believe when local people are empowered and given opportunities, their neighbourhoods will thrive. This is why we are thrilled to announce the launch of The Wembley Park Community Fund through our partnership with Quintain and their partners as it is a brilliant opportunity to achieve these aims and support the community groups and residents of Brent.”

Applications close on June 19 with donations awarded by August.
