Charity golfers helped to raise more than £12,000 for a Kenton hospice by enjoying a great game and some fine food.

Seventeen teams battled it out for a top prize playing a game of golf in the surroundings of Moor Park Mansion in an effort to raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice, in Kenton Grange.

They enjoyed a light breakfast on July 17 before playing on the famous championship high course.

The evening was topped off with a three-course meal and live entertainment.

Golfer Lord Peter Saunders said: “The golf, food, weather and all round service were for want of a better word ‘perfect’ and I just wanted to thank St Luke’s for organising a wonderful event.”

Aneka Shah, of St Luke’s added: ‘We would like to thank all the teams who took part in our Golf Day event. £12,000 is a magnificent amount raised for the hospice as it could fund almost a month’s stay for a patient.”
