Celebrity chef attends opening of College of North West London’s £2.8m campus
A multi-million pound redevelopment of a Brent college has been officially completed with a three day extravaganza.
Following a £2.8million makeover the College of North West London opened its regenerated Wembley Campus, with celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo on hand to unveil the building.
Hoards of local residents came along to find out more about the revamped campus and Mr D’Acampo, who is originally from Naples, sampled students dishes and navigated a 3d chasm.
The chef, who has appeared on ITV reality show, I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here and the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen said it was great to see so many people.
He said: “We should have more colleges like this. It gives the people in the community the opportunity to learn new skills so they can find good jobs.
“I’ve been very impressed with the training kitchens at the college. When I trained as a chef in Napoli we didn’t have half of the equipment that they have here.
“These students are very lucky.”
Hoards of local residents came along to find out more about the revamped campus in Wembley Park Drive.
Students and visitors swarmed the reception area to meet Gino and be photographed with him.
Vicki Fagg, Principal of CNWL, said: “This was a great showcase for the college and I am delighted with the positive response we got from all the visitors.
“We are all about the development of skills to build bridges for local people into better job opportunities and they started by crossing the ‘bridge’ with us on opening day.
“We expect to see nearly 2000 local students through the doors of the building this year and we look forward to welcoming them on to our courses.”
Other activities over the three day event, which culminated on Wednesday, November 7, included taster sessions on Dermalogica skin care, Asian bridal make-up, Wella haircare, business start-ups, wine tasting, purchasing & negotiation advice, cookery tips, massages and manicures.
