The class of 2017 at The Crest Academy have achieved a record-breaking set of GCSE results this morning.

Overall 74per cent of students achieved 9 to 4 (the equivalent of A* to C) in English – a full 12pc above the national average, while 68pc of students achieved 9 to 4 in maths, 8.1pc above the national average.

Crest headteacher Mohsen Ojja said: “The excellent results this year are the product of hard work from all our students and staff.

“We are delighted that last year’s achievements have been surpassed in 2017 and we look forward to welcoming our highly talented students back to the sixth form in September.”

David Hatchett, the regional education director for E-ACT, the trust that runs the academy, said: “Less than three years ago this academy was in special measures and had very poor GCSE results.

“These fantastic results at Crest Academy today show that strong leadership and governance, alongside outstanding teaching can bring about transformation and great outcomes. Congratulations to all of the students, staff and the leadership team for their hard work.”

Koathar, who bagged a 9 in English language, literature and maths, said: “The teachers at Crest really helped me to achieve my potential – the extra classes and revision sessions they put on made a big difference. There is a close-knit community at Crest and everyone pushes you on to succeed.”

While Teswahen netted 9 in maths and 8 in English language and literature, as well as six A* or A grades and aspires to study at Cambridge University after completing her A-levels.

“I have had fantastic and inspiring teachers during my time at Crest, and the careers advisor helped me to plan out what volunteering opportunities I can do to help my university application,” she said.

Zainab, is looking forward to joining The Crest Academy sixth form in September having achieved 9 in English Literature and 8 in Maths.

During her time at Crest she has been inspired to discover new medicines and plans to study Pharmacy at UCL or Imperial College, London.

Zainab said: “The environment at the academy encourages you to work hard and achieve your best. They teach you to work independently without always relying on others.”
