Four men who sold fake NFL shirts and scarves to American football fans in Wembley have been fined almost £2,000.

Francis Strachan, 29, Andrew Baker, 45, Damian Brown, 44, and 51-year-old John Lynam, flogged the counterfeit items when the Oakland Raiders were playing the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium in September.

On Tuesday at Willesden Magistrates’ Court all four admitted selling goods without the appropriate street licence and selling counterfeit T-shirts and scarves with unauthorised NFL logos.

Strachan was fined a total of £830, Baker £470, Brown £680 and Lynam avoided a fine but was sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge.

Cllr George Crane, Brent Council’s lead member for environment and neighbourhoods, said: “This is not the first time that some of these traders have been prosecuted by Brent Council for these offences. I hope the fine and the criminal record they receive will deter them from operating illegally again in Brent.

“Their behaviour badly affects legitimate businesses and causes serious nuisance for local residents.”

The 143 items which were seized from the men will be destroyed.
