Feel inspired and uplifted at a free week long gospel music festival in Wembley which is taking place for the first time.

The Luv Gospel Brent Community Festival is taking over the North Wembley Community Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) in East Lane from November 11 to 18.

The five day programme, on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, includes artists from the Gospel scene, a drop in choir session, a Songs of Praise style conversations and free refreshments.

Michael Agyei-Asare, of the South England Conference of the SDA, organisers of the event, said: “This is something happening for the first time.

“We thought it would be nice to do something that involves music for the whole community as Gospel music is always lively and welcoming, it’s vibrant, inspirational and heartfelt.

It starts at 6pm with free refreshments with performances at 7pm as we’d like people to have some food first. Our relationship with people is important. They are welcome and we can also get to know them.”

The event kicks off on November 11 with Denice Wint and Gospel choir The Company. Performers during the week include 2016 MOBO nominee Andrew Bello, 2017 Eden Awards Winner Phillipa Hanna and community choirs including the Harrow Community Gospel Choir.

The finale on November 18 features Manchester Inspirational Voices, winners of BBC’s Songs of Praise Choir of the Year 2016/17.

People are invited to programmes running all day, including a drop in choir, to support MIV in “making a big sound” in the evening.

There are Songs of Praise style workshops in the morning where people can share their experiences, and what songs best represents their belief.

In the afternoon there is an audience with Brent Council’s deputy leader Cllr Margaret McLennan and Mayor Bhagwanji Chohan the mayor of Brent.

Mr Agyei-Asare said: “It will be a nice discussion on how they can help the community and make it a better place.”

He added: “Our church is not the biggest church in Wembley but if this festival works and people find it interesting and something they enjoy then hopefully it will get bigger and we can do it in different areas within Brent.”
