An animal charity in Kensal Green is appealing for foster carers to cope with a surge in dumped cats that have ended up in their care.
So far this year the Mayhew Animal Home has taken in more than 100 moggies that have being callously thrown away in boxes and bags like rubbish.
The hike in dumped animals has resulted in the sanctuary in Trenmar Gardens, running out of space and they are urgently appealing for foster carers to help ease the situation.
JoAnna Puzzo, a welfare officer at the Mayhew, said: “The situation is getting critical. People are dumping them in boxes and bags like they’re rubbish.
“We urgently need more foster carers as we’re running out of space to put them.
In one the latest cases to end up in the Mayhew, eight two-week-old kittens were found abandoned outside a basement flat and two flea ridden ones dumped in a sack on the pavement.
Urging cat owners to take measures to stem the situation, she added: We are urging people to get their cats neutered and we offer a low cost neutering service which will really help with the problem.”
