Harlesden’s very first community festival was a huge success despite a downturn in the weather.

Crowds came out to enjoy the first festival showcasing all that’s positive in Harlesden.

Cllr Parvez Ahmed, the mayor of Brent and Dawn Butler, Labour MP for Brent Central, joined councillors who also came out to mark the occasion.

Brent Community Choir and St Michaels and All Angels Steel Orchestra were among the local entertainment.

Dulcie Joseph and her Trinidad Roti shop were on hand to give the young steel pan performers free food.

Visitors enjoyed a fashion show and there was also a street performance from the colourful Mahogany Carnival.

And to give respite from the rain, Reverend Leao opened the doors of the Methodist Church so a range of workshops could be bought inside.

The festival was the brainchild of Harlesden councillor Bobby Thomas and supported by Brent Council, Harlesden Methodist Church and Harlesden Safer Neighbourhood Police as well as local businesses.
