More than 18,000 people streamed into Wembley Park to take part in this year’s spectacular fireworks celebration, despite the wintry weather.

The free, family friendly event on Sunday evening was buzzing with live street music, performance artists, and an array of food stalls.

The fireworks were moved from its usual Roundwood Park location after Quintain, the company behind the redevelopment of Wembley Park, offered to sponsor the event.

The new venue gave people across Brent easier access to the fireworks as it was so close to Wembley’s public transport links.

It also provided a great vantage point to watch the fireworks and look at the changing colours of Wembley Stadium’s iconic arch.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “Like lots of our residents in Brent, I have always enjoyed our annual fireworks display. That’s why I am so pleased that, in partnership with Wembley Park, we were able to put on such a fantastic show, absolutely free of charge. I’d like to give special thanks to all of the staff, volunteers and front line service personnel who made the event such a success.

This year’s display was one of our biggest ever, with more than 18,000 people coming from across North West London. Visitors were treated to dance shows, music and food stalls as well as a wonderful fireworks display.

“At Brent Council, we are already looking at ways that we can make next year’s event even more exciting for residents.”

Angus Dodd, Quintain’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Brent Council to host Sunday’s spectacular fireworks display for local residents, workers and visitors. The show brought everyone together and reflected the buzzing and vibrant community we enjoy here at Wembley Park.”
