Elderly residents at a care home in Cricklewood were evacuated in the early hours of this morning after a fire ripped through the ground floor.

Four fire engines and more than 20 firefighters were called to the property in Blenheim Gardens at 3.32am where they tackled the blaze which caused substantial damage to around half of the lounge and kitchen area.

No one was hurt and the evacuation took place as a precautionary measure.

The fire was under control by 4.38am.

The cause is now under investigation.
