A slum landlord who left his tenants to live in a house in Neasden that stank so badly of urine that one of the rooms became inhabitable has been fined.

Gareth Kirwan failed to carry out essential repairs on his property in Aylesbury Street, leaving the house riddled with damp and with the distinctive putrid smell caused by a leaking toilet.

He ignored repeated requested from the council to carry out the repairs after his tenants reported him to Brent’s Private Housing Services Team.

Despite being served with a formal improvement notice he failed to carry out the repairs resulting in his prosecution.

Last week at Willesden Magistrates Court he was convicted of ailing to carry out the repairs and fined £2,000.

He must also pay costs of £1,147 and a surcharge of £120.
