A dodgy trader who travelled more than 100 miles to sell fake designer socks at Wembley Market has been fined in court.
Asif Khan, 42, flogged the counterfeit goods bearing names such as Nike, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Chanel and Louis Vuitton to his unsuspecting customers after coming down from his home in Birmingham.
Hendon Magistrates’ Court heard when officers from Brent and Harrow Trading Standards Service (BHTSS) raided his stall in July this year they seized 518 pairs.
The socks would have been worth more than £11,000 if they were genuine.
He admitted nine offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994 and was fined £500 and ordered to pay £500 costs.
He must also pay a victims’ surcharge fee of £50.
Bill Bilon, head of BHTSS, said: “Be it socks or designer handbags, every trader must ensure the items they sell are genuine.”
Wembley Market closed for good last month after more than 20 years of trade.
A new artisan market will open in the next few weeks.
