Community members young and old gathered together to switch on festive lights in Kenton.

The Kenton Area Traders Association (KATA) invited the choirs of St Gregory’s Catholic College and Uxendon Manor Primary School to perform at the event in Kenton Road yesterday.

Everyone then piled in for light refreshments provided by Blue Ginger Restaurant.

The lights were switched on in time for the festival of Diwali and will remain illuminated until after Christmas.

They have been jointly funded by Harrow Council and the KATA.

Ketan Mandalia, KATA chairman, said. “I am delighted to see the switching on of Kenton’s festive lights attracting more people each year. I hope that everyone who came along enjoyed the event and continues to enjoy the lights over the festive period.“

The traders hope the lights will encourage people to shop.

Brent Council axed festive light funding in 2011 in response to government cuts to its budget.
