Family fun day raises hundreds for Bailey’s Wish

Dozens of children joined Bailey Walters-Lawrence, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and her mother Shermel for an afternoon of bouncy castles, slides, face painting and cakes at Fortune Green play centre, raising more than £700 in just one afternoon.

Proceeds from the fun day bring the total raised for Bailey’s treatment to £18,651.19 since the Brent & Kilburn Times launched the Bailey’s Wish campaign three weeks ago.

Ms Walters-Lawrence said: “Bailey had a lovely afternoon and it all went really well. It was a great turn out with lots of children and it was so positive to see everyone supporting us.”

Bailey’s family has just one month left to raise the remaining funds for selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital after she was told NHS funding for a clinical trial of the treatment could no longer be found and she would have to raise the money privately.

It is hoped the treatment will help Bailey learn to walk without her wheelchair and walking frame.

A music night featuring sets from DJ Esther Jones, musician Tom Murray and Brent & Kilburn Times news editor Lorraine King will also be held at the Good Ship in Kilburn High Road on Sunday evening from 6pm.

In advance of week of fundraising efforts to help her daughter Ms Shermel-Walters said: “Even if you can’t make it down to the music night, which is going to be great, you can still contribute by spreading the word about Bailey and giving what you can.”
