Project which has boosted the Church End and Roundwood areas comes to an end after 10 years
Residents, community organisations and supporters turned out to mark the end of a 10-year rejuvenation project at a special event in Willesden.
Around 200 people said a sad goodbye to Fair Share Trust Brent at a fun day held at the Unity Centre in Church Road, on Saturday.
Children and families enjoyed the sun and the range of activities and events during the say including face-painting, football lessons, a bouncy castle, chocolate fountain and popcorn stand.
Fair Share Trust Brent, which was run by the London Community Foundation, funded more than 300 community-based projects and gave advice on debt and welfare to 900 households in the Church End and Roundwood areas.
To keep the their legacy alive, Fair Share Trust Brent has submitted an application to Brent Council to become a designated Neighbourhood Forum and Neighbourhood Area under the Localism Act 2011.
Approval is subject to public consultation by Brent Council, which will take place over the summer.
Patrick Vernon OBE, an advisory panel member of Fair Share Trust Brent, said: “Most of the local residents felt that although Fair Share Trust Brent was coming to an end after 10 years, they wanted to play a part in supporting the legacy with the creation of a new neighbourhood forum.
“We are looking for local residents, workers and businesses to join and participate in the forum to make this a success. The neighbourhood forum will help promote the image of the area as a destination point for investment, job creation and environmental improvement.”
Monthly meetings on the new neighbourhood forum will be held at the Unity Centre.
The next meeting is this Thursday at 6pm.
