Inner city commuters will get to experience a touch of the great outdoors after a group of residents created an allotment on the platform of Kilburn station.
Keen gardeners planted fruit and vegetables in four raised beds at the Jubilee line station.
Members of Transition Kensal to Kilburn, a sustainable living group that organised the plot, said they hoped the project will encourage the thousands of people who use the station to grow their own fruit and veg.
Michael Stuart, from the group, said: “We want people travelling on the tube to see the plants, and help themselves to the fruit.
“We hope to show people that if we can grow fruit, vegetables and flowers on a busy tube platform, then they can easily grow the in their gardens, on their windowsills or in their front drives.”
The project was part of London Underground in Bloom competition to encourage planting along the tube system,
