A Wembley school is looking to the future after a “good” Ofsted put an end to two years of instability.

Sudbury Primary School, which was plunged into troubled waters when inspectors handed out the dreaded “requires improvement” label in January 2016, is celebrating receiving a “good” rating across the board this week.

Inspectors – who visited the school in July – found that attendance was above average because students “have a clear work ethic” and “enjoy coming to school.

While teachers at the Watford Road school – which caters for 928 students – were lauded for producing lessons which is “exciting” and “captures the interest of pupils”.

Chair of governors rev Greville Thomas said: “We are pleased to share with our parents, children and the community that the school has now been judged to be a “good” school after a thorough full school inspection.

“This is an external verification for the governors and school leaders that the school is heading in the right direction.

“Ofsted reported that the governors have been effective in ensuring that the leadership has improved outcomes for pupils which is a thrilling result for the parents.”

The report is a far cry from the school’s previous inspection, when the ‘effectiveness of leadership and management’ was criticised due to the amount of in-fighting going on between leaders and governors.

Under the stewardship of Beth Ragheb, who was appointed to the helm in September 2016, the school has made strides to create a more harmonious atmosphere and producing “accelerated progress”.

Rev Thomas added: “We have an exceptional headteacher who Ofsted described as ambitious and skilful and confirmed that she has indeed led the school with determination and skill.”

In order to improve further the school has been told to provide more opportunities for students to work at a greater depth in reading and writing at Key Stage 2 level, to improve pupils’ progress in science, geography and history, to make sure teachers deliver lessons meeting the needs of disadvantaged children and to ensure the progress of the reception class is matched by nursery kids.

The report is available to read on the school website at sudburyprimary.co.uk.
