Young people who have turned their lives around doing a skills course in Alperton celebrated their success in a special ceremony.

The “Celebration of Achievement” event at The Wembley centre, based in Crown House on the North Circular Road, recognised the achievements of young people enrolled on courses with independent training provider Skills Training UK.

The learners aged 16-24, many of whom struggled at school, and need extra educational support or face challenging circumstances at home – all received certificates to acknowledge their progress.

Fardowsa Bahdoon, said the training programme helped her progress onto a dream career working in the health sector.

The 18-year-old said: “Skills Training UK has made a big difference. Without its help, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I started the study programme in 2015 and have since achieved qualifications in business administration as well as maths and English. My next step is to do an apprenticeship in health and social care as I want to work in a hospital.”

Martin Dunford OBE, chief executive, Skills Training UK, who attended the event, said: “Many of our learners arrive low in confidence and reluctant to take part in learning. Some face challenging circumstances in their personal lives and most have no or few qualifications, including vital skills in English and maths.

“Our tutors help every young person enrolled on one of our programmes to grow, develop employability skills and gain work experience that helps with their CV.

“It gives our young people the very best chance to change their lives – leading to real and meaningful opportunities that have the potential to lead to apprenticeships, full time work or further education.

“We are very proud of all our learners for the hard work and the positive progress they have made. When we see how far they have come in such a short space of time, that’s what gives everyone at Skills Training UK a real sense of job satisfaction.”
