Pupils at Kilburn’s newest primary school raised the roof performing their first nativity in front of their MP.
Forty-nine reception children at Kilburn Grange School in Priory Park Road performed their first ever nativity play to parents, staff, governors, and special guest Tulip Siddiq, MP for Hampstead and Kilburn.
The nativity was the culmination of learning in the autumn term, where the children gained a greater understanding of their local community and celebrated local heroes. The finale was a rendition of the unique Kilburn Grange School Community Song, a celebration of what it means to work together with people to build a strong community.
Tulip Siddiq MP said: “One of the joys of Christmas is seeing students across Hampstead and Kilburn taking part in the annual nativity play. My congratulations go out to Kilburn Grange School for the work they have put in to this special event, and on a wider scale, their first full term in the constituency.”
Kilburn Grange School opened in September as a two-form entry, non-fee paying, non-selective, non-denominational, co-educational free school.
Starting with two reception classes it will continue to grow as a primary school year on year until it reaches its full 420 pupil capacity in 2021.
Helen Richardson, head teacher, said of her first term: “It’s been so amazing. The children have blossomed. They’ve been caring about things, caring is our motto, the parents are incredibly proud and everyone’s so supportive, it’s just been a dream.
We only have seven staff in total including myself so it is really tough but we have a lovely team approach so it works really well.”
Classes are topic led with “super starters” to introduce them and “fantastic finishes” to see their completion.
The school runs football, ballet and gym clubs every day and children can stay until 6pm for additional care if parents require it.
Ms Richardson added: “The school serves the whole community and aims to create a happy, nurturing environment. Our first nativity was a celebration of that.” Applications are open for reception places in 2016 and there are remaining places for children who wish to join year one.
