Primary school pupils in Queens Park got quite a royal surprise to see a Duchess in their classrooms.

The Duchess of Cambridge stole into Salusbury Primary School, in Salusbury Road, to shoot a video in support of the first Children’s Mental Health Week.

The Duchess is patron of Place2be, a mental health charity providing emotional support to children in schools.

The mother-of-two asked the pupils if they had friends they could talk to and whether they enjoyed activities such as art.

She said: “Every child deserves to grow up knowing their potential and feeling confident they won’t fall over at the first hurdle.

She added: “While you can’t always change a child’s circumstances you can give them the tools to cope and to thrive. With early support they can learn to manage their emotions and feelings and know when to seek help.”

On the school website was written: “Two out of three English primary schools do not have a counsellor so having one at Salusbury for three days per week is something we are very proud of.

“Along with Place2be we are very grateful to the Duchess for helping to remove the stigma around children’s mental health.

“The children had a great time meeting the Duchess and we are very pleased that she chose Salusbury to come and visit.”
