Students and staff from a Brent college are celebrating a “good” rating from education watchdogs.
The College of North West London, which has a campus in Wembley Park Drive, Wembley, and Dudden Hill Lane, Willesden, was praised by Ofsted for its continued improvement.
The report highlighted seven out of nine categories being strong including the quality of teaching, personal development, adult learning programmes and apprenticeships.
It said that achievements for apprentices, students with high needs, looked after children and care leavers were high.
Staff were described as “knowledgeable and highly skilled and use their expertise and experience effectively to develop students’ skills and knowledge”.
Teachers also made good use of local and national skills competitions to raise students’ aspirations and leaders and manager at all levels have successfully raised standards.
However inspectors said outcomes for 16 to 19-year-olds on study programmes requires improvement because a low number gain their qualifications, particularly at entry and intermediate level.

The college can become an ‘outstanding provider’ if leaders and managers monitor staff performance more effectively and governors provide sufficient challenge to those leaders.
Judith Williams, chair of the college’s corporation, its governing body, said: “We are delighted that Ofsted have confirmed the positive progress that the college has made since the last inspection.
“By every measure the college is improving and deserving of the ‘good’ grade. In particular we are delighted that outcomes for learners have strengthened with overall achievement rates showing a significant rise, with more than 9 out of 10 learners successfully completing their qualifications.”
Andy Cole, college principal, added: “This grading has been achieved through the dedication of all our staff and their determination to ensure the best possible outcome for every one of our students. An uncompromising focus on improving the life chances of learners will continue to motivate us as the college seeks to progress even further over coming years.
“The inspection findings show that that our ambition to take the college to an ‘outstanding’ rating is now within our grasp.”
