Rhys Dennis needs £1,200 to fund a course at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance
A part-time trainee waiter who dreams of opening a dance studio in south Kilburn is appealing for help so he can live out his aspirations.
Rhys Dennis, who also lives in south Kilburn, is desperate to raise the £1,200, plus living expenses, needed to fund a one-year course at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.
Rhys, 20, who works part-time at T.G.I. Friday’s in Wembley, says he is finding it hard to save the cash he needs by the end of September and is looking for more work.
He added: “I’m asking if anyone is able to help me raise this money so that I can make a start to achieving my dreams.
“The course I have applied for is a foundation degree course in contemporary dance, but because of my age it will cost me £1,200 to train at the school.
“As it is an entry course onto the main degree and a dance institution, it doesn’t allow me to apply for student funding.”
Originally a street dancer, Rhys volunteered as a dance teacher for more than five years at the Tabot Edu-Play Centre in Granville Road, Kilburn.
But now Rhys has his sights set on a move north to one of Europe’s top seven dance schools so he can one day return to his south Kilburn roots and set up his own business as a dance choreographer.
“I would love to be a dance choreographer,” he said.
“I want to give back to the community and open a dance studio in south Kilburn.
“There is not much of an industry in Brent when it comes to street dancing.
“The course will enable me to progress as a dancer, gain more strength as a dancer and enable me to be more confident and versatile.
“Having all these other options will give me more opportunity for a long career in the future.”
