Staff and pupils at a primary school in Willesden have taken up the challenge of a new daily fitness project.
Donnington Primary School in Uffington Road, is one of seven schools in the borough to sign up to The Daily Mile.
The fitness and wellbeing project involves pupils taking 15 minutes out of class to walk, jog or run a mile around their playgrounds, sports facilities or any nearby areas, every day.
Florence Afolabi, a teacher at Donnington Primary, said she was surprised with the overwhelming interest from pupils eager to participate in the mile every day. She added: “My pupils remind me that it’s time for The Daily Mile. It helps their focus. In reception classes parents have become involved that they do it with their children at the weekends. The pupils are its biggest champions.”
Cllr Krupesh Hirani, cabinet member for community wellbeing at Brent Council, said: “As well as helping children’s fitness, it also helps engagement and attainment in classes, boosting friendships and confidence - and it is also takes learning outside.”
