A community of parents, residents and teaching staff are being asked to have their say on plans to double the number of pupils at a primary school in Wembley.

Brent Council and the governers of Elsley Primary School in Tokyngton Avenue, have launched a consultation over plans to enrol 60 extra pupils, or two classes, in each year group.

This will mean the co-education community school will have 840 four to 11-year-olds being taught at the school by 2022.

The council said any new buildings will be of high-quality and linked to the main building on the existing site and have excellent class facilities.

The first new permanent buildings will open from September 2016 if the proposals are agreed.

Cllr Ruth Moher, Brent Council’s lead member for children and young people, said: “As many parents will be aware we are facing immense challenges in providing enough school places to meet the demand in Brent. That’s why we’re consulting on building more permanent places at Elsley Primary as we have done at many other schools.

“It’s really important that parents, teachers and the community have their say at this stage and tell us what they think about the proposal for more places.”

Its nursery will be unaffected by the proposal.
