Mini Monets from primary schools across the Brent were head-over-heels at the unveiling of a colourful new mural in Harlesden.

More than forty budding artists gathered at Newman Catholic College on Friday morning to celebrate the giant wall painting they created with the help of professional artist Morgan Tipping.

The year six students have been busy putting the finishing touches to the mural after spending their summer holidays learning techniques to create a vivid scene inspired by UNICEF’s rights of the child and the theme of unity amongst children from around the world.

Ms Tipping said: “We’ve designed this mural to reflect the educational ethos of the school and the fact that this is a UN rights respecting school.”

The children put on a dazzling display of break dancing moves at the official unveiling with head teacher Danny Coyle particularly impressed by one pupil’s front-flip artistry.

One pupil said: “I drew peace signs because If we can have war then why can’t we have peace?”

Another added:“This mural shows our freedom and has helped me to further my creativity. I’ve also improved my artistic skills and it’s been great working on an art project!”.

Ms Tipping has experience in running art education courses to students from India to Africa. To view more of her collaborative projects see: morgantipping.co.uk.
