New building boasts a host of first-class facilities
Children, parents and staff have celebrated the formal opening of a £3 million extension at a primary school.
The new building at Park Lane Primary School in Park Lane, Wembley, boasts a range of first-class facilities and will cater for an additional 30 pupils a year.
The extension also houses a 60-place nursery, reception classes, sports hall, library, offices and hygiene room.
The original school building has also had a makeover with the addition of modern washrooms, more classrooms, an enlarged kitchen and further storage.
The opening ceremony included a special assembly with performances from pupils, followed by tours of the new building.
Carole Bevis-Smith, the school’s chair of governor, and Cllr Michael Adeyeye, Mayor of Brent, were among the speakers at the event.
Mrs Bevis-Smith said: “Last year Park Lane School celebrated its centenary and we looked back at how our school had been an integral part of the community. With this expansion we can look to the future - a future with excellent primary school facilities for the children of Wembley.
“In going around the school since the opening of the new build, it has been noticeable how much the children, staff and parents are enjoying the extra space and new facilities.”
Cllr Adeyeye, officially declared the building open and, during a tour of the new facilities, joined children studying in the new library.
He said: “This is a popular and successful school and I am sure that local families will be delighted that more places are on offer and the facilities have been improved significantly.”
A £92.3m programme of planned permanent school expansions is underway in Brent, which will eventually create 4,410 permanent primary places.
An extra 490 high-quality temporary places are also urgently being created.
