Dave Wardle wins Jane Tomlinson Inspiration Award

A teacher from Kenton is following in the steps of an Olympic legend after being presented a prestigious award which was last given to Sir Steve Redgrave.

Dave Wardle has been a PE teacher at Claremont High School since 1977 and over the years he has organised Duke of Edinburgh Awards, annual ski-trips and outdoor pursuits to Snowdonia, the Lake District and the Peak District for both pupils and staff.

When he is not doing school duties, he takes part in marathons, triathlons, duathlons and has been the director of the Hillingdon Triathlon Series for 26 years.

For his efforts, he has been awarded the Jane Tomlinson Inspiration Award, an accolade named after a runner who raised money for charity despite suffering from terminal cancer. She died in 2007 at the age of 43.

Paul McCann, assistant headteacher, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we at Claremont are very proud of him.

“He has given children a wonderful opportunity over many years that they would not have had if not for him.

“To follow in the footsteps of arguably the greatest British Olympian, Sir Steve Redgrave, is true testament of Dave’s selfless contribution to the community.”
