A drumming legend and renowned songwriter visited a music college in Kilburn where he gave an exclusive masterclass to students.

Joseph ‘Zigaboo’ Modeliste, who is also a founding member of funk band The Meters, shared his unique talent at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in Dyne Road.

The 64-year-old American artist is known as a master of creating funk grooves and new concepts of funk drumming.

During his time with The Meters he recorded the 1960s anthem ‘Cissy Strut’ that has been sampled countless times by artists ranging from Public Enemy to DJ Shadow.

After the band split in the 1970s he went on to tour with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood and embarked on a respected and successful solo drumming career.

Mr Modeliste demonstrated different rhythms and answered questions about his career and experiences as a master drummer during the two-hour session.
