A newly formed academy in Wembley has received a lick of paint in time for the start of the academic year.

ARK Elvin Academy, formerly Copland Community School in Cecil Avenue, was given a makeover by more than 130 volunteers armed with paint brushes and mops.

The team painted the academy’s new logo in the main courtyard, which has a purple torch bearing the letters AEA with a yellow flame forming the shape of a lion’s head. Classroom doors and radiators were painted purple and repairs were made to the music rooms.

Principal Annabel Bates said: “I want to thank everyone who gave up their free time over the summer to help improve the look and feel of our school. This will give a real boost to students and staff as they come back from their holidays and begin the new term.”
