A college which counts global superstar Ed Sheeran among its alumni is bidding to provide a “world class” music syllabus for its students.

Creative music college Access to Music welcomed Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq to its campus earlier this month, where it has partnered with the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) to foster talent through vocational, employment-led teaching, providing a pathway to higher education.

The team at Access to Music and ICMP gave Ms Siddiq a tour of the campus, introducing her to students and showing off the state-of-the-art facilities including its performance and digital recording studios.

Access to Music delivers level 3 music management, performance and song writing courses to more than 80 students per year. All courses are delivered on ICMP’s campus and many students go on to study at ICMP London, which provides a range of high quality, professional music courses from degree to masters level.

“It was a pleasure to meet such a talented and creative group of students,” said Ms Siddiq.

“It was great to learn about the partnership between Access to Music and the Institute for Contemporary Music Performance, particularly how this is leading to fruitful careers for their students.”

Access to Music director of business development, Jason Beaumont, said: “It was fantastic to welcome Tulip to the campus in Kilburn.

“We’re really proud of our work in making sure local young people get the opportunity to access the skills needed to enter careers in the creative industries.

“There are huge opportunities in London for students to embark on creative industry careers, whether in music, theatre and the arts, digital or gaming.”

The college also has a strong track record for supporting their students as they progress to careers in the music business, media and wider creative sectors.

Success stories include Stereophonics drummer Jamie Morrison and international DJ and producer Dan Van.

ICMP chief executive Paul Kirkham said: “We are proud of our partnership with Access to Music, and that over the last thirty years we have built an exceptional reputation for delivering the highest standards of music education.”
