Brent residents opposing plans for an incinerator in Harlesden have been given less time to speak out at a planning meeting than their counterparts in Ealing.

The Rev Robert Wilson, chairman of Harlesden Environmental Action Residents Team, has been told by Ealing Council that he has two minutes to speak at the meeting tomorrow – a minute less than residents in Ealing.

He said: “I am the only one allowed to speak from Brent.

“It’s unbelievable.”

During the meeting two other residents will be able to speak one from Ealing for three minutes and another from Hammersmith and Fulham who like Rev Wilson has been given two minutes.

Rev Wilson and hundreds of residents in Brent and Ealing are opposing the installation plans for Channel Gate Road which is expected to be approved by Ealing Council.

They believe it will result in increased traffic flow and air pollution.

“How can they (Ealing Council) decide it in seven minutes it is a bit ridiculous,” said Rev Wilson.

“It’s going to harm the atmosphere and there will be more traffic with 60 lorries a day going backwards and forwards.”

Rev Wilson has vowed to take the fight to the Mayor of London’s office if the plans are approved.

He added: “I am not against the council, but I’m thinking of the people of Brent.”

An Ealing Council spokesman said: “In accordance with the planning public speaking protocol, one resident in opposition of proposed plans is usually given three minutes to speak at the committee meeting.

“It is up to the chair’s discretion to agree other arrangements when appropriate.”
