The Queensbury pub is under threat by property developers who plan to build flats in its place

The fight to save a popular pub in Willesden Green from being demolished has garnered the support of a group of determined mothers.

The Queensbury Pub, in Walm Lane, is under threat after its owners, the Conservative Club sold it to a developer who plans to tear it down and build a 10-storey block of flats in it place.

In protest at the plans campaign group Save the Queensbury (StQ) was launched and have today got the backing of a mother and baby group who use the facility.

The club, Busy Rascals offer a weekly drop in service for expecting and first time mothers and today offered to petition and hand out leaflets to members of the public to highlight awareness.

The women meet every Tuesday morning in the pub while an activities session for babies also runs at the nearby Queensbury Deli, which is also under threat.

The plans have previously been slammed by former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, who told the Times it would be a “tragedy” to lose it.

Boy band, The Wanted and Sarah Teather, MP for Brent Central have also got behind the campaign.

Ian Elliot, a member of the StQ campaign told the Times: “They are very angry at the proposal and have offered to leaflet the area to tell people about the campaign.

“We are very grateful to them, we need as much support as we can get so everything helps.”
