A dawn raid on rogue landlords in Wembley found 23 people, including 10 children, living in one semi-detatched house.

Officers from Brent Council stormed the property which has seven rooms, excluding the kitchen and any bathrooms, last Wednesday.

They also raided a shed in the back of a second property where they discovered evidence that it may have been illegally rented out as private accommodation..

Brandon Lewis MP, Housing minister, joined Cllr Margaret McLennan, Brent Council’s lead member for housing, during the two raids as part of efforts to drive out rogue landlords in the borough.

On Friday, it was announced that the council will be one of 48 local authorities to receive a slice of £5million funding from the department for communities and local government to tackle rogue landlords. The council already runs a licensing scheme to ensure landlords rent out their properties to acceptable standards.

Cllr McLennan said: “We take a zero tolerance approach to rogue landlords.”
