A dance teacher who has taught ‘hundreds and hundreds’ of children in Brent is celebrating her 50 years in the business with a charity party on Sunday.

Adele Maxwell Miles, who counts novelist Zadie Smith, world famous concert pianist Joanna McGregor and dancer Daniel Wright as former pupils, is raising money to supply cows to Ugandan war widows.

She said: “I hope some of the famous ones will come,” she laughs. “I’ve taught hundreds and hundreds of children, all over Brent. I’ve hung up my shoes now but I’m still doing choreography and filling in the classes when someone’s sick. I’m keeping my hand in, I couldn’t give it up, I love the children.”

Over the last 50 years Miss Maxwell Miles, taught her young charges ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance, holding classes at the Neasden, Kilburn, Dollis Hill, “a different hall every day, that’s how I did it,” before settling premises at Christchurch Hall on Willesden Lane.

Present pupils will dance, while former pupil, actress Sara Alexander and her husband Cory English will make a film of her.

Miss Maxwell Miles, married to husband Carl Wright for 30 years, has already raised £2,600 and hopes to raise £1,000 in order to provide 10 cows to Ugandan families whose lives have been blighted by war.

“I hope I raise lots of money on Sunday. Dancing and raising money for cows, because I love parties.”

The party will take place this Sunday (23) at Christchurch Hall on Willesden Lane, Kilburn, from 2pm – 5pm. Adults £10, children £5
