Labour’s former culture secretary made a visit to Wembley to talk to residents ahead of her bid to become London’s next mayor.

Dame Tessa Jowell held her second “Tell Tessa” event for Brent residents in the Sattavis Patidar Centre in Forty Avenue on Tuesday to discuss housing, the London living wage and other issues.

She said: “I came to Brent to hear what local people want to change in our city. Low pay, expensive transport, opportunity for young people and London’s ever-worsening homes crisis were all right at the top of the list.

“Like other Londoners, they are looking for answers. That’s what my One London vision is all about. I want to build a movement to deliver the change that Brent, Harrow and all of London needs - and I want people from Brent and Harrow to join us.”

Dame Jowell, who is backing Brent Council’s commitment to offer companies that pay a Living Wage a discount on their business rates, pledged to use the power of the Mayor’s office to encourage other London council’s to do the same.

Navin Shah, London assembly member for Brent and Harrow, who was also at the event added: “Tessa is just what London needs - someone with vision, imagination and passion for all Londoners. Tessa will be a mayor who listens to diverse outer London boroughs like Brent and Harrow.”
