Three Brent men involved in a police chase in Kensal Green on Notting Hill carnival weekend are to be sentenced after borough officers found two loaded firearms in the car they were in.

Denton Carty, 20, of Barley Close, Wembley, Laquan Gayle, 19. of Compton Road, Kensal Green, and Jevan Nugent, 19, of Byron Court, Kingsbury, will be sentenced on April 19 at Harrow Crown Court.

They were part of a group of five men who appeared at the court for a nine-day trial which ended on March 1.

The court heard the trio were in a car with two other men driving in Kensal Green on August 28 last summer, in the area round the Notting Hill Carnival.

Just before 11pm, officers from the Brent Gangs Unit were on patrol and tried to stop the car on Mortimer Road.

The car eventually stopped in Burrows Road where a number of the passengers got out.

The driver, Arron White, a 33-year-old from Greenford, was detained by officers as he got out of the car while passenger Reneico Linton-Welsh, 23, from Milton Keynes was arrested after unsuccessfully trying to run away.

The pair were charged on August 29.

After an extensive investigation Carty and Gayle were identified as two other car passengers and arrested on September 19.

Nugent was arrested on October 6.

Officers found two loaded firearms - an Ekol Arda 4mm Revolver and a BBM 8mm blank firing pistol, and a large hunting knife in the car.

Carty and Gayle were found guilty of possession of a revolver, possession of an offensive weapon and possesion of firarm ammunition.

Nugent pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm.

Acting Det Sgt Tom Palmer, from Brent CID, said: “Firearms have no place on London’s streets. The weapons found in their vehicle were used to threaten and intimidate those they came across.

“As a result of the thorough investigation by the team, we were able to identify those who had handled the firearms and bring them to justice.”
