An illegal Willesden subletter has been slapped with a fine of thousands of pounds, taking Brent Council to more than 100 criminal prosecutions since it began cracking down on rogue landlords.
Arthur Zuravskij was found guilty of illegally subletting a five-bedroom house in Hanover Road, Willesden, to seven tenants.
He rented the house from a letting agency and sublet it without the legally requisite licence from Brent Council.
Mr Zuravskij was ordered by judges at Willesden Magistrates Court to pay £2,250 in fines, while his company, Enox UK Ltd – formerly Skyline Property Management – was fined £8,000.
Brent Council says it has now brought prosecutions against 101 landlords accused of contravening housing regulations since it began a crackdown in 2015.
“We hope that more than 100 prosecutions against rogue landlords in Brent send a clear message that rented properties in the borough need the correct licence,” said Cllr Harbi Farah, cabinet member for Housing and welfare.
