Police have launched a murder investigation after the victim, believed to be in his 30s, was shot in Cumberland Road.

Officers and ambulance crews were called at about 9pm. He was found with critical injuries and died at the scene an hour later.

Another man, aged in his 20s, is in hospital also suffering from a gunshot wound. He is in a stable condition.

Leon’s friend James Kadena told the Brent & Kilburn Times: “I’m just so confused. We met in January and played music together – he was a good friend of mine. He had a space to do his music in Queensbury. That’s maybe why he was there. I talked to him every day, I saw him yesterday and later got a missed call from him at 8.20pm last night.”

He added: “He has two kids. He was a big cuddly bear with a good spirit. He loved music and was very smart – a really nice guy.

“This is nothing to do with gangs and violence. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had nothing to do with that.”

Navin Shah, Labour Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow, said: “It’s extremely sad to hear about the shooting outside Queensbury station and loss of yet another life from murder on a London street.

“My heart goes out to the victim and his family.”

He added: “I’m aiming to raise this issue at the Mayor’s Question Time for some urgent action and clear strategy to tackle wave of increasing serious crime.

“To deal with this issue at grassroots level this will require multi-agency work including engaging with communities.”

Police continue to appeal for witnesses. No arrests have been made.

Det Insp Justin Howick said: “I would like to appeal to anyone with information to contact police at the earliest opportunity.

“Detectives are busy at the scene and working to build a clear picture of the circumstances of this fatal attack.”

No arrests have been made and police are in the process of informing the victim’s next-of-kin.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 7757 of May 1, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
