A teenager from Queen’s Park who allowed her Pitbull to attack a frail pensioner and a dog walker in separate incidents has been given a community order.

Tamara Herrera, 19, of Second Avenue, was also ordered to pay 75-year-old Anita Crown and Darren Davis, after they were mauled by her bitch Haze a day apart.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Mrs Crown was left lying on the ground with a hip injury and her dog Lucky needed surgery to its genitalia after being attacked on May 24 this year.

In addition, Lucky was left with a permanent limp and Mrs Crown had to pay £300 in veterinary fees.

The next day Mr Davis was walking a dog with his girlfriend in Queen’s Park Gardens when they were also attacked by the hound.

He was left with punctures to his fingers.

Herrera handed herself into police on June 14 but the dog had vanished.

Ross Leek, for Herrera, told the court that the case was ‘tragic’ for both victims and Herrera who had taken over responsibility for the family dog after her mother was viciously assaulted earlier this year.

She admitted two counts of being in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury and was ordered to do 120 hour community service, pay £400 compensation to Mrs Crown, £50 to Mr Davis, and a £60 victim surcharge.

Mr Leek added that Herrera, a warehouse worker, was desperate to keep Haze’s puppy Henessey, which is currently in police kennels.

But magistrate Emir Feisal announced that the one-year-old bitch will be destroyed to protect public safety.

He said: “As regards the matter of the dog in the police kennels, the court is satisfied that the dog will constitute a danger to public safety.

“Therefore we must order its destruction.”
