Yobs who cause anti-social behaviour around Wembley Stadium on match days could face jail or a hefty fine if caught breaching a new police initiative.

A ‘dispersal zone’ has been introduced in Tokyngton ward, meaning troublemakers causing a nuisance on match days can be dispersed by police.

The action, by police and Brent Council, was prompted after residents and businesses complained about anti-social behaviour that included individuals loitering in large groups, aggressive behaviour, intimidating behaviour to staff and customers in shops, urinating in communal areas and streets, littering and trespassing.

Culprits will be told not return to the area for 24 hours or face arrest.

The maximum penalty for breaching dispersal zone rules is three months imprisonment or a fine of up to £2,500.

Leaflets on the dispersal zone will be distributed to residents and businesses in the area and a map will be publicly displayed.

Chief Inspector Andy Jones said: “While the local residents and businesses recognise there will be disruption when there are Stadium events, we are committed to ensuring the impact on their day to day lives is minimised.

“The dispersal orders that we have previously used to this end have been a resounding success.

Councillor M Aslam Choudry, lead member for crime prevention and public safety said: “Having the national stadium on our doorstep is very exciting but it’s important that we prioritise making sure that there’s as little disruption as possible for local residents.

“The council supports orders that mean Brent residents can feel comfortable and safe on event days and that the excitement of those days positively enhances the borough.”
