A man was overheard on the phone asking for someone to bring a gun to the scene in Sudbury where a 20-year-old was shot dead minutes later.

The victim, who has yet to be named, was gunned down outside the Sudbury Swan pub in Harrow Road, just after midnight today.

He died at the scene.

A 60-year-old who was working in the area told the Times he heard an angry man on his mobile ordering the suspected murder weapon.

He said: “I heard a lot of shouting and there was a guy on his phone saying ‘come with your gun, bring your posse, bring the gun’”.

“I know him, the guy who was shot,” he added.

“He was young and a little skinny boy, a very quiet, a nice guy.

“This is crazy- he was so young.”

According to a resident, a group of five people attempted to resuscitate the man, described as a “young black man” as he lay bleeding in the street..

Kinner Brahmbatt, who lives just off Harrow Road, said: “I came home from work at around 12:30am. There were people running round calling 999 and they were trying to give a black guy CPR. ”

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Chalmers for the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command who is leading the investigation said: “The motive for the murder is unclear at this stage, but we are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area in the early hours of this morning to contact police by calling the incident room on 020 8358 0100 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
