A man has been arrested in connection with suspected bombs found in an empty Harlesden flat.

Two improvised explosive devices were found in a flat currently being refurbished in Craven Park Road yesterday morning.

A 48-year-old man was arrested at a residential address in north London today on suspicion of an offence contrary to section 4 Explosives Substances Act 1883, Scotland Yard said.

He was taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

A police spokesman said: “At this early stage of the investigation, detectives do not believe that the arrested man has links to any terrorist organizations, or that there are any ongoing public safety issues.”

Police were called to the empty property just after 9.30am yesterday.

Neighbours were evacuated from their homes and all local roads were closed so that officers could look over the two devices.

The initial assessment was that they were both improvised explosive devices (IEDs), Scotland Yard said.

The two devices were made safe and are now undergoing further forensic examination.

Cordons were lifted at 6pm and people returned to their homes after the whole area was deemed safe.
